I decided that the 17″ step up into the driver\/passenger seats was a bit too high for us “under 5’5″ers”, so it was time to add some hoop steps to make ingress\/egress easier.<\/p>\n

Here’s what they look like:<\/p>\n

The bottom edge of the Promaster is not parallel to the ground, it curves down toward the front… so, the brackets need to be a bit off from level in order for the steps to look level with the door opening.<\/p>\n

The steps are mounted by attaching two brackets to the frame of the van, then bolting the steps to the brackets.<\/p>\n

The brackets are attached to the van with rivnuts.\u00a0 A hole is drilled, then the rivnut is inserted and tightened into place.\u00a0 I made a simple tool to insert and tighten the rivnuts, and it worked well!\u00a0 The tool is a metal bar, a bolt, and two washers, tightened with a wrench.\u00a0 Bottom rivnuts are for 8mm bolts, the top are for 1\/4-20 bolts<\/p>\n
